And all the mystery shows I've been watching

First, a few pieces of news:

What I’m Watching

Mysteries and plays!

Ever since we finished Deadloch last month, we’ve been trying to find another show that hits the same notes: a season-long mystery that looks like a gritty drama but is chock-full of ridiculous humor, and that’s not too gruesome or dark.

Our attempts have been hit or miss, and we ended up resubscribing to BritBox. Bodkin didn’t work for me, and I gave up after three episodes. (My partner told me how it ended.) Ludwig was good, but not the same vibes, and now I’m stuck waiting for season 2. Father Brown is just a comfort watch, and we mostly leave it on in the background.

Then we watched How to Get to Heaven from Belfast, by the creator of Derry Girls, and that hit the spot. It follows a group of childhood friends who share a big secret from their teens that gets dredged up twenty years later. It’s wickedly funny, with a wild, multilayered mystery. While it all gets wrapped up by the end, there’s potential for a second season, and I really hope it gets renewed.

Aside from mystery shows, I watched A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms on my own, starting it during a sleepless night after my child woke up crying at 2am. (I got her settled within ten minutes, thankfully, but I couldn’t get back to sleep myself.)

I’ve also seen two plays this month. First, I saw Every Brilliant Thing on Broadway. Despite the heavy topic, the show itself was a fun experience. Then I went with Priscilla Oliveras to see Vanessa Cordoniu’s emotional and resonant one-woman show, Perra Puta Loca Bruja: A Latina’s Reclamation Journey, as part of NYC Fringe.

Next up, I have a ticket for The Lost Boys on Broadway, and I’m planning to see You, Me & Tuscany in theaters when I get back from LA.
